In this article, I’m going to share with you a lead generation marketing hack that’s by far the most effective method when it comes to turning new subscribers to paid customers.

The best part is, this trick is super simple to implement. You can apply this strategy to all your existing campaigns or new campaigns that you are building.

Let me start by saying that it’s a widely known fact that the email with the highest open rates is the very first email that you send to your subscribers. It’s also known as the welcome email and I have seen from my own experience that welcome campaigns get as high as a 90% open rate. Now imagine you get a thousand people on your email list and 900 of those thousand people open that first email, you can interact with them and make them an offer.

Although this is a well-known fact, not all businesses remember the importance of the welcome email. Usually, one of two things happen;

  1. either they don’t send a welcome email at all and they start with a follow-up campaign later on which is directly related to their product or;
  2. They send a welcome email which says something like “Thank you for subscribing, here is your free gift. I hope you enjoy it. Talk to you soon.

This is not a good email marketing practice if you actually want to maximize the revenue from your new leads. With every new subscriber, you basically have a once per subscriber opportunity to do two things; build trust of your brand and everything that you represent and secondly close the sale.

Everything that I just told you really doesn’t have much to do with the lead generation marketing hack that I wanted to share with you in this article. It’s just the basic stuff that I needed to tell you because otherwise, what I am about to reveal to you is not going to make much sense.

Now the real hack that I wanted to share with you (which is something that very few businesses out there use today) is called a welcome automation series.

A welcome automation series is a way you can use the same email for the same subscribers and maximize your open rates so you can make more money. At the end of the day, the more people you get to open that welcome email, the more money you are going to generate.

Essentially, it’s the numbers game. That’s what email marketing is all about! The more people open your email, the more people will click your links, the more people will buy from you.

With that said, let me share with you a simple automation that takes minutes to set up yet it can generate 10X, 20X or 30X in terms of revenue from the same subscribers that you are getting today.

You will find this animation feature in pretty much any email service provider so, this technique should really be easy to implement. Instead of creating a typical autoresponder sequence or followup sequence this simple technique calls for you to create an automation which purely focuses on your brand new subscribers.

Step One

The automation starts when someone subscribes to your list or is tagged with a certain tag in your database. At this stage, you have a new contact in your list and they’re just sitting there, waiting for the next step…

Step Two

Now, it’s time to wait. Set your automation to wait for about 5-10 minutes because you don’t want to send them an email right away. You want to actually wait for them to go through the process you’ve set out for them on your opt-in funnel.

Once your new subscriber has entered their name and email in your opt-in form on your website or wherever you do this, you probably have an offer or thank you page you want to show them before you encourage them to leave your site and go to their email.

Step Three

Once you’ve waited 5-10 minutes, you can then send your welcome email. This can be your typical welcome which consists of two things; building trust and closing the sale.

To build trust, you need to introduce yourself, tell your new subscriber a little bit about your company and what it does.

Then you make the best possible offer to them so you can potentially close the sale.

So it’s very important that you use this opportunity because you know that more people are going to open this email than any other email that you send.

This is where most people end the automation but this is not how it should end.

Step Four

At this point, you need to wait again but for about six to eight hours this time. Essentially, you are waiting to see if they actually open the email because the next step depends on that knowledge.

Step Five

The next step is called a “what/if” scenario and basically, you need to know whether they opened your initial email. If they have, you send them down the “Yes” route and if they haven’t, you send them down the “no” route.

You’ve now separated your subscribers into two branches. The “yes” people are those people who actually opened your email and then obviously you can go deeper into working with them. I’m not going to cover that in this article but you can go deeper with your automation and check things like whether they clicked a link that you wanted them to click or whether they purchased the product that you want them to purchase etc.

But in this case, we are going to end the automation for the “yes” people because they have done everything you need them to at this point.

Then you have the second segment of people who have not opened your welcome email; the “no” people. So, all you need to do here is send them your welcome email again. It’s as simple as that!

You can include a different subject line if you want but that’s all you need to change.

Step six

Then, it’s time to wait again for another six to eight hours and check whether they actually open your email. And then, you want to perform the same thing a couple of times and every time, getting more and more subscribers opening that email.

The upside of all of this process is that the more people open your email in their email client, the more delivery you will have for your next email and so the higher open rate will be for your next emails.

This simple automation is a must-have. When I’m doing these kinds of lead generation campaigns and building a new campaign, I build this automation automatically because I don’t want to send the other valuable emails in my follow-up sequence before I’ve had chance to build rapport with them

I make sure that I send the next emails only to those people who have opened my welcome email and who have clicked the important links in that email. It’s super important that they open that welcome email because it sets up your relationship with them, making them more likely to open your future emails and accept your upcoming offering.

The immediate upside by getting a higher open rate is the higher revenue potential, but also it’s a longterm game. Now you have higher quality leads in your autoresponder or email service provider and when you send the next email, you will get higher open rates in general.

The Key Takeaway

So, remember, this is the number one lead generation marketing hack which is by far the most effective when it comes to increasing revenue from your new subscribers.

The thing that I want you to take away from this article is this; The welcome automation is the once per subscriber opportunity for you to build trust and close the sale. Neglecting this opportunity will negatively impact your lead generation campaigns and the results that you are going to get.

If you want to get 10x, 20x or 30x on your current results, implement this automation right now and you will see the impact right away.
