Today, I want to answer a simple question and it’s this; what makes money online?
Now you might think “What kind of question is that? It’s kind of weird. Everybody knows what makes money online and so just show me the method, show me how to do it and I’m just going to do it.”
But the reality is that because most people don’t have a clear answer to this question, most people never ask this question, they never think about it.
Because of that they struggle, and they will keep continuing to struggle, and unfortunately, most people will never ever make any money online.
So in today’s article, I’m going to answer that question, I’m going to give you the guidance so that by the end of this episode you know what to focus on and how to really turn your online business around and start to really take massive steps toward making money and getting the result that you are aiming for.
Making Money Online Misconceptions
Traffic Gets You Sales
Now let’s talk a little bit about some of the well-known misconceptions about making money online. So a lot of people think that it’s all about traffic.
If you are able to generate a lot of traffic, you can make money. And on the surface level, it might seem like that, but any experienced marketer will tell you that you can have the best website in the world, you can have the best dropshipping store in the world, but if your product or service is not what people want, then you can send tens of thousands of visitors to that page and nobody will buy, nobody will take action, nobody will do anything.
Traffic is a component of making money online, but it’s not the only one. If you are for example doing coaching and you are selling a $5,000 coaching program, you don’t need the tens of thousands of visitors, you might need just 10 because if you get the 10 people that really want what you are selling and they have the money to buy it, they will just buy it.
It’s all about the product
So it’s not really traffic that makes money online. Now, some other people think that “Well, if it’s not traffic then it should be a product. It should be a hundred percent a product.”
So they spend weeks and months on creating a product if it’s a digital product, or they jump into eCommerce and they start to create a white-label product, for example. Or they take a white-label product and try to build the brand right out of the gate, and they invest enormous amount of time and money into this.
And again, after a while, they realize, “Well, it’s not actually true. That product doesn’t make any money. I have the product, but now nobody’s coming to my site. Nobody is buying anything.” So it’s really not a product.
It’s all about the website
Another assumption that a lot of people have, “Well, if it’s not traffic, if it’s not the product, then it must be a website. You need to have a website or you need to have a store.” And so a lot of people think, “Well, if I build the website, if I build the store, then I will get all the money I need.”
And actually that’s how I started.
The Real Secret To Making Money Online
When I started the end of 2008 this is what I thought. I thought, “Well, I just need to put up a website, put some content on it, and then all the people from the world will see this website, will come to my website, will buy something, and that’s how I’m going to make money.”
Now after a decade online and after kind of trying all of these things and focusing on all of these different aspects on traffic generation. I have been obsessed with it and focusing on how can I generate more and more traffic on product creation, how can I create better products, and also websites and eCommerce stores.
After focusing on all of this, I realized that there’s just one indicator that you need to focus on if you really want to make money online. So the real answer to what makes money online is access.
And more specifically, access to people.
When you have access to lots of people that are interested in what it is that you are doing or what it is that you are selling, you can basically get results and make money every single time.
Even more, if you start to look around and if you think about the most valuable companies in the world, the companies such as Facebook, Google and Amazon, it’s not their website that is so valuable, it’s not their platforms or their products or services that are so valuable.
The most valuable thing that these companies have is access to lots of lots of people and access to lots and lots of data about those people.
So now they know that someone who is searching for XYZ, he needs to see this product or this service.
And the same with Facebook. People give all their information to Facebook, and they know so much about you that they can present an offer to you that you can’t resist and you will take it.
So the bottom line is that when you are building an online business, the real key performance indicator of your online business, (and it really doesn’t matter whether you are just starting out and you have no access to nobody or you are already an offline company that tries to break into the online world or do you have some business going on right now), …
the only key performance indicator you need to focus on day in and day out is how many people I can access with a push of a button.
And that means building an email list.
whether it’s a buyer’s list or it’s a prospect list but building an email list every single day focusing on growing access to more and more people from around the world that are interested in the topic that you are covering, that your business is about.
And by getting access to more and more people, you will have an opportunity to make the money that you want. And as soon as I understood this concept and this principle back in 2011, my business has grown ever since.
I have been obsessed with focusing on this one aspect for all of these years.
Even today, I focus continually on that aspect. How many people I can access with a push of the button. And the more people I can access with a push of a button, the more money my business is going to generate, the more valuable my business is going to become.
